On January 21, 2017, Women’s March Ann Arbor took to the streets to “march in solidarity with our partners and allies to uphold and protect the rights of all, including women’s rights, LGBTQ rights, immigrant rights, the rights of people of color, and the right to religious freedom.” The march started at the Federal building near Liberty and 5th Avenue (right across the street from my old office and where my darkroom currently is) and concluded at the University of Michigan Diag with a rally. Rally speakers included Community & Civil Rights Activist Michelle Elizabeth Brown, and Congresswoman Debbie Dingell, in addition to several others. Estimates suggest there were 11,000 people in attendance, but I think it was closer to 20,000. That’s just a hunch I have, based on my experiences attending University of Michigan football games here in Ann Arbor. It was a beautiful warm day, which is very unusual for Michigan this time of year. The sun even came out at times.
The historical significance of this event deserved to be captured on film. I loaded my cameras with Bergger BRF 400 Plus film. I shot it at box speed (ASA 400), and processed it with Ilford’s Ilfotec HC at 1+31 working solution. I’m happy with the results. I really love the classic look of this film.
